CARL GORDON CUTLER
1873-1945Carl Gordon Cutler was born in Newtonville, MA, in 1873. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris with B. Constant and J.P. Laurens, and with George Hitchcock in Holland. He was a member of the Four Boston Painters and The Boston Five group. He painted at Fenway Studios from 1906-1941. He spent thirty summers in Maine, capturing the Maine coast in modernist plein-air watercolor. He was co-author of Modern Color.
