CHARLES OCTAVIUS COLE

Charles Octavius Cole hailed from a family of artists, which included his father Moses Dupré Cole and brothers Joseph Greenleaf Cole and Lyman Emerson Cole. He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, in 1814 and made his living primarily as a portrait painter in New Orleans and Maine. His subjects in Maine included Portland and Newcastle residents.
