GEORGE STORY
1835-1923George Story was born and resided in New Haven, Connecticut, where he studied under Charles Hine and L. Bail. In addition to being an Associate Member of the National Academy of Design, Story belonged to the Lotos Club, a men’s social club established in 1870, to which many prominent artists belonged. His work was exhibited at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876. Story also held positions as curator at the Metropolitain Museum of Art from 1889 to 1906, and as Director of the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford, Connecticut from 1904 to 1905.
