GUSTAVE ADOLPH WIEGAND
1870-1957Gustave Adolph Wiegand was born in 1870 in Bremen, Germany, and studied at the Royal Academy in Berlin, as well as with William Merritt Chase and Eugen Bracht. He was a member of the New York Society of Painters, and exhibited extensively, including at the National Academy of Design from 1894 to 1900 and in 1905, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1900 to 1910 and in 1916, and at the Corcoran Gallery Annuals in 1907 and 1908. Wiegand won medals at both the St. Louis Exposition in 1904, and the St. Louis World’s Fair. He died in Old Chatham, New York in 1957.
