HAROLD C. DUNBAR

1882-1953

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, Dunbar studied painting at the Massachusetts Normal Art School under Ernest Major and Joseph DeCamp. From 1908-1913, Dunbar was a pupil of Edmund Tarbell at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, as well as privately. He continued his artistic studies as a student of Colarossi in Paris. Painting primarily landscapes and portraits, Dunbar was awarded an honorable mention from the Watercolor Society in 1917. He shared his knowledge and love of art as Director of the Chatham Summer School of Painting in Cape Cod. In addition to working in Chatham on Cape Cod, Dunbar shared a studio with Charles Hayden in Belmont, Massachusetts.
