JOHANN BERTHELSEN
1883-1967Born in Copenhagen in 1883, Johann Berthelsen was six when his family immigrated to the United States in 1889. Trained as an opera singer, he toured the United States and Canada with the Grand Opera Company, until he began a serious career as a painter in 1932. As a resident of New York City, he was well-known for his exquisite renderings of city streets and parks. He also painted similar scenes in and of Chicago before his death in 1969.
