JOHN FREDERICK HERRING, JR.

English, 1815-1907

John F. Herring was the son of one of England’s greatest Sporting and Equestrian artists. Like the father, the son specialized in sporting and animal subjects, especially horses and farm scenes. Herring occasionally collaborated with his father-in-law, Alexander Rolfe, a painter who specialized in fishing scenes. Herring’s wife, Kate, was an artist as well. Herring’s work was regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy, among other institutions.
