WALTER FRANCIS BROWN
1853-1929Painter and illustrator Walter Francis Brown was born in 1853 in Providence, Rhode Island, was a member of the Providence Art Club, and studied at Brown University. He also studied in Paris with Gérôme and Bonnât, and participated in the Paris Salons from 1880 to 1884. He illustrated Mark Twain’s “A Tramp Abroad,” as well as Charles Miller’s “Roger Williams.” Brown spent a great deal of his life in Venice, Italy, and his specialty was painted scenes of Venice, where he died in 1929.
